Basket making courses

Join one of my courses to make a basket of your own.

You can never have enough baskets.....and if you can make them yourself they are even better!!


All courses are suitable for beginners or those who have some experience.

We will be using a variety of coloured willows and every basket will be unique. You will also learn about the different types of willow used in basket making and how to prepare them for use....ready for your next basket.


All tools and materials will be provided and everyone will take home their basket.

I can run any of these courses for 2 or more people on most days at your convenience. Please contact me if you are interested in a different date.

For all courses, pay half the cost as a deposit to secure your place.
Cancellation policy: Deposits can only be refunded if your place is filled.

Small round basket with a handle

A one day course to too make a small forage basket, using a variety of coloured willow. You will learn a number of basic basketry techniques and take home a basket of your own.

Christmas decorations made from freshly harvested willow

We harvest willow in the winter when the bark is at its brightest, and it's perfect for colourful Christmas decorations.
We will make stars, trees, wreaths and other decorations made from fresh willow and reindeer and angels from other willow.
Cost half day £25 per person, full day £50 per person, including materials and light refreshments.

Round basket with a woven base

A one day course to learn the basics of a stake and strand basket using a variety of coloured willow. You will learn a number of basic basketry techniques and take home a basket of your own.

A full day course to make an asymmetrical basket with a wooden handle, using a variety of coloured willow.

Frame basket


Frame baskets are a traditional way of making a basket.

This is 1 day course to learn the basics and make yourself a fruit bowl, a bread basket or a garden trug, using a variety of coloured willow.

£50 per person, to include materials and light refreshments. please bring your own lunch.

Planting living willow structures
with Roundhouse Partnership


Ely
In this course you will learn how to plant a living willow fence called a fedge and a small tunnel. We will be planting at our field in Ely. There may be an option to buy a kit to plant your own structure.
THis is a half day course, which will run from 10 - 1.
Cost includes materials, tools and light refreshments.

The field where we will plant is quite rough terrain and has no facilities available. Access is via a rough track.

Get ready for the summer season in the garden with a willow plant support. Great for peas, beans etc. There may be time to make other small willow items as well.

Basket making in the woods
with Roundhouse Partnership


Join us in our beautiful woods in the Vale of Glamorgan for a day of basket making, birdsong, relaxation and cake. (Shelter available if wet!)
£50 per person, including all materials, tools and light refreshments, (bring your own lunch).

This venue is in a woodland, with rough or muddy paths for access. The facilities are limited but include a compost toilet, and a shelter in the event of bad weather.

If you have a group of 2 - 8 people who would like to do basketmaking in the woods please contact me to arrange.

Birdfeeders and garlic baskets

Half day 9.30 - 12.30  

These  lovely little conical baskets can be used outside for feeding the birds with fat balls,  inside to hang up in the kitchen with garlic or lemons, or perhaps in the bathroom with soaps.
During the session we will probably have time to make at least 2 of different colours and styles. This basket uses several basketry techniques and is a good introduction to willow weaving.
£28 per person, including all necessary materials and tools.
